FAQs

Q. Are you seeking owner operators or executive owners?

A. We want our owners to be involved in the business, but not working “in” the business as instructors. Most of our franchise owners will focus on community engagement and team management.

Q. Can I own more than one swim school?

A. Yes. We believe some owners will operate multiple swim schools. We offer discounts on initial franchise fees for owners who commit up front to additional units.

Q. How much space do I need for this swim school?

A. We recommend about 8,000 square feet in either a leased or owned facility. Your site must have adequate parking, drive by traffic and easy access for parents with young children. We have specific site criteria which will help you evaluate real estate that would be a good fit for your Silver Bear Swim School location.

Q. How many employees are needed to operate the business?

A. Typically 10 to 15 part time employees depending on scheduling, time of year and classes offered.

Q. How long does it take to open?

A. It varies! We are looking for the timeline to be between 9 and 18 months. This can depend on how quickly you find a site, lease or acquire your space, build out the facility and complete pre-opening training.

Q. What are the startup costs and what do they include?

A. Estimated costs include 3rd party professional fees, insurance and 3-months of working capital.

Q. How much will the business make in a year?

A. We will be able to share our Financial Performance Representation, called an Item 19, in our Franchise Disclosure Document which highlights affiliate performance and history. This can be a useful tool to help you evaluate revenue potential for your swim school.

Q. Why do we use saline and chlorine in our pools?

A. Saline is easier on the skin and hair, and chlorine kills all bacteria and keeps the pool water clean.

Q. Why doesn’t Silver Bear Swim School teach private lessons?

A. We believe the 4:1 student to teacher ratio benefits the swimmers by using peer modeling.

Q. Are there any special programs?

A. Silver Bear Swim School offers infant lessons, toddler and school age lessons, swim team classes and workouts, and has a Special Abilities Program for students who are differently abled.

Q. Does the owner need to be directly involved in management?

A. Yes, the owner should be hands on with the business. They do not need to be at every shift, but should remain involved.

Q. Are there any requirements on location for a Silver Bear Swim School?

A. The location must have sufficient, convenient and safe parking and must not be located near any business or establishments unconducive to children and families (e.g. bars, liquor/convenience stores, pornography/sex stores, motorcycle clubhouses, etc.)
